Job Description

About the Role:

As a Fibre Optic Splicer at Opticomm, you'll be integral to the installation, splicing, and maintenance of our fibre optic network. In this full-time position, you will contribute to the development and upkeep of a high-performance fibre optic infrastructure, ensuring our customers receive dependable and uninterrupted telecommunications services.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Work with optic fibre infrastructure, including installation of communications racks, joints/enclosures, live network, testing and commissioning of optic fibre equipment
  • Diagnose and resolve fibre optic network faults promptly, ensuring onsite attendance and restoration of service faults
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure exceptional customer service
  • Perform site-related duties as needed, including onsite installation and maintenance of services at residential properties and network infrastructure hubs
  • Foster a safety-first culture in compliance with WHS Act and regulations, ensuring safe work practices and tracking safety KPIs
  • Participate in a rotating on-call roster (typically one week per month)
  • Work with Field Services, Network, and Infrastructure teams to achieve commercial outcomes and upgrade network capacity (FTTP/FTTB/FTTN/HFC)
  • Ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and coordinate the resolution of major network faults with subcontractors
  • Construct, prepare, and commission network communication cabinets and infrastructure, ensuring QA compliance
  • Contribute to the development of network installation guides and support the deployment of new network infrastructure

Essential Experience:

  • Certificate III or IV in Telecommunications
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Telecommunications or a related industry
  • Proven expertise in working with optic fibre infrastructure, including the installation of communication racks, joints/enclosures, live network cutover, and testing and commissioning of fibre optic equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to quickly and effectively resolve fibre optic network issues
  • Knowledge and experience in fibre optic splicing standards and practices
  • Familiarity with GPON Networks, including Pit and Pipe, Fibre, Equipment, and components
  • Experience working on live fibre networks
  • Specialist knowledge of cable and satellite services (desirable)
  • Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD Viewer
  • Understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements

The following certifications and licenses are mandatory and must be maintained as active throughout employment:

  • Open Cabling License with Fibre and Structured Cabling Certifications
  • Construction White Card
  • First Aid Certification (Level II)
  • Valid Driver’s License
